Many of the towns now have the proposed maps available to be reviewed. If you are anywhere near the ocean, a marsh, a river, a lake, a pond, or if your home/land has experienced any flooding in the last few years (think about the infamous Patriot's Day Storm and Mother's Day Storm) you should stop by the town hall to see the new proposed maps. There is time to dispute the new maps before they are adopted by the community. If you own a home or business, and even PART of your building is in the flood zone, you could be required by your mortgagee to purchase a flood policy. There is also time to potentially purchase a policy for less premium before the maps are adopted and the property is placed in a more expensive "high risk" zone.
Even if you are not in a "high risk" flood zone, you are eligible to buy flood insurance in most participating communities. Floods, like fires, are unpredicatble and can happen to any home. Flood claims are not covered under standard homeowners policies.
If you would like to learn more about flood insurance, feel free to give me a call.
Jon Sevigney CIC (207) 646-8388

Oceanfront Insurance

We are fortunate in our office to have so many Insurance Companies that can provide quotes for oceanfront homes. In many parts of New England, it has already become very difficult to obtain homeowners insurance for properties located within a mile of the Ocean. In Southern Maine we are starting to see this trend as well. If you are having trouble procuring insurance for your oceanfront home, or you have seen a dramatic increase in the cost of your insurance, give us a call at (207) 646-8388! At Sevigney Lyons Insurance Agency, we specialize in insuring oceanfront homes and oceanfront rental properties. We are experts in flood insurance, and licensed in ME, NH, VT and MA.
-Jon Sevigney CIC

Our First Blog Entry

Thank you for visiting us at sevigneylyons.com!
